This year, SenSys will take place in the city of San Diego, in sunny southern California. The conference is hosted at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley hotel.

A block of rooms has been arranged at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley at discounted rates for SenSys 2005 attendees. To reserve a room, please contact the hotel directly (see above) and mention that you are attending the SenSys'05 conference to get the special ACM rate. Deadline for hotel reservations has been extended and must be made by October 11, 2005 to guarantee the block rate. The conference rate for a single or double room is $139.00 (not yet including the 10.545% tax). This rate comes with free hi-speed Internet and unlimited local and long distance phone calls. Conference attendees are also entitled to a reduced self-parking rate ($6) at the hotel. Check-in time is 4 PM and check-out time is 11 AM.
The conference hotel is located in the heart of San Diego, in an area called Mission Valley, and close to public transportation. You can find some online maps of San Diego at this site . Mission Valley is home to world-class shopping at the Fashion Valley Shopping Center, with over 300 specialty shops and restaurants plus an 18 screen movie complex. The hotel is directly adjacent to the Rio Vista blue line trolley station. This light rail system provides convenient access to many of San Diego's main tourist attractions. The historic Gaslamp Quarter in downtown, Old town San Diego with its famous Mexican restaurants and the relaxing Seaport Village are only a few minutes away. The trolley extends all the way to the border, from where it is just a short walk into Tijuana, Mexico (make sure you have the required documents to get back into the US if that is your plan). Like many cities in SoCal, San Diego is really built for car owners. Luckily, the hotel is located rather centrally, and you can still get to other sites in San Diego by taxi or public transportation. For the latter, you can check out the MTS trip planner (you can choose the Rio Vista trolley station as your starting point). Getting to Sea World, for example, is not too hard. You can take the trolley to Fashion Valley Station (or just walk there) and then board bus 27 toward Clairemont Mesa. You get off on Sea World Dr and the crossing with Sea World Way; it's 0.2 miles to Sea World from there. Other options include taking an organized tour, which often includes transportation. Bus line 27 above also brings you to the typically southern californian Mission Beach and Pacific Beach areas, with its pearly sands and surfer culture.
From the airport
The fastest and easiest way to get to the hotel from San Diego Intl Airport is probably taking a taxi (~$25/taxi). A slightly cheaper, but less direct option is taking a shuttle bus (~$17/person). You can find the taxi and shuttle bus pickup locations on the airport terminal map. Using public transportation is slightly more involved (~$2.25/person). Board the city airport shuttle (bus 999) at one of the Bus/City Stop locations on the terminal map and ask for a transfer from the driver (so you won't have to pay again for the trolley). Get off at the Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego and from there take the San Diego Trolley Blue Line north. The Rio Vista station is right next to the hotel, across the walk bridge.

Both sites have links to websites for U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide. The embassy and consulate websites have very helpful information about procedures, timelines, communities served, required documentation, and fees.
Letters from ACM:
International registrants should be particularly aware and careful about visa requirements, and should plan travel well in advance. All visa inquiries must be handled by ACM HQ. Please send your request for a letter in support of a visa application to Elizabeth Grove (email@example.com), and include your name, mailing address, and fax number, as well as the name of the conference you are attending. (Authors of papers/posters should also include the title). Please note that ACM does not issue formal "letters of invitation" to any of its conferences.
